CECILIA
a film by irvin kershner
original Story & screenplay
by
irvin Kershner and mitchell Lifton

The film is a story of love and betrayal and music
and passion, to be directed by one of Hollywood's legendary directors, Irvin Kershner.
It tells the romance of an independent, magnificently
strong-willed woman ultimately destroyed by her passion--for opera, and
for one of it's greatest composers: Giacomo Puccini. The entire action of
the film is set in Italy shortly before the Maestro's death, at the time
when Mussolini and his thugswere grabbing power (1919-23).
The film is set in the world of opera, but it
is in no sense an "opera film." It is, rather, a driving and tragic
love story which uses the intense dramatic passion of Puccini's music as
a significant element in the narrative.
Since operatic performance is an essential part
of the story, Warners Classics International has completed recording the
on-screen music with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa singing the principal arias, Puccini's
great music loved and admired around the world. The score which will be
written for the film will be closely integrated with the Puccini melodies.
